EcuPulse Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 6, 2026 Applies to: EcuPulse Android 2.0.0 (Google Play) and its Wear OS companion

EcuPulse reads Subaru vehicle telemetry through an OBD adapter, displays it and lets you record and review it. We do not operate an EcuPulse telemetry backend, require an EcuPulse account, or include advertising or analytics SDKs. We do not receive your recordings unless you send them to us.

Information on your devices

The phone stores vehicle information (including VIN or ECU identifiers when available), car profiles, telemetry CSVs, event snapshots, alarm rules, layouts, settings and performance-run summaries in app-private storage. Videos you record are saved in your shared media library. Raw GPS coordinates and routes are not saved by the app; performance runs retain derived speed-agreement and slope estimates.

App-private data is removed when you clear app storage or uninstall. Android backup or device transfer can restore eligible preferences, as described below. Videos and files you export remain in their destination until you delete them there. Export important logs before uninstalling: CSVs, imported definitions and performance-run files are excluded from the app's automatic backup rules.

Optional Wear OS synchronization

SYNC TO WATCH is off by default. When enabled, EcuPulse sends selected telemetry, recording/connection state and alarm information to your paired watch through Google Play services' Wear Data Layer. Watch commands and acknowledgments travel back to the phone. This may include the adapter's display name, alarm names/values and selected telemetry labels/units. The app does not send full CSV recordings, videos or GPS routes through this channel.

Google Play services can route this data directly over Bluetooth or through Google's servers when a direct connection is unavailable. Google documents cloud Data Layer transfers as end-to-end encrypted. The connection is not guaranteed to remain local merely because EcuPulse has no INTERNET permission. Turn off SYNC TO WATCH and WATCH REMOTE in Setup to stop the respective features; clear the companion's storage to remove its locally retained state.

Android backup and device transfer

EcuPulse allows Android to back up and transfer SharedPreferences. These include settings, car-profile identifiers and saved event snapshots. Depending on your Android backup settings, this data may be copied to your Google-account backup or transferred to another device. We cannot access that backup. Manage or delete it using your device's backup/account settings. The app excludes file and external-storage domains, including CSV recordings and imported definition files, from its backup rules. Re-import definitions on a new device and verify settings before using them with a car.

Permissions

• Nearby devices / BLUETOOTH_CONNECT: connect to an adapter already paired in Android settings. The Play build does not scan for Bluetooth adapters or request BLUETOOTH_SCAN.
• USB: Android asks for permission to open the selected ECU or serial-gauge adapter.
• Microphone / RECORD_AUDIO: optional on-device voice commands and audio in videos you record. Voice control uses an on-device recognizer and stays unavailable when one is absent; it does not fall back to cloud recognition. Voice-command audio is not saved. Video audio is saved in your video file when REC AUDIO is enabled.
• Camera / CAMERA: preview when you open the video feature, and recordings you start or enable with a pull/performance run. Preview alone is not saved as a video. Video recording stops when the app leaves the foreground; changing screens inside EcuPulse can keep burn-in recording active.
• Location / ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION and ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION: optional phone-GPS speed and altitude measurements during a performance run. Precise location is needed for the cross-check. Collection stops when the app goes to the background. Missing or unsuitable GPS yields an unavailable cross-check; GPS AGREES is an estimate, not certified timing or surveyed slope.
• Notifications / POST_NOTIFICATIONS: show background logging and watch-sync notifications where permitted by Android. Denial can hide notifications from the drawer while the system still lists an active foreground service.
• Connected-device foreground services: keep adapter logging and enabled watch synchronization active when the screen locks or the app backgrounds.

Sharing, support and Google services

You choose whether to export or share CSVs, timeslips, profiles, snapshots or videos. A receiving app, storage service or person handles those files under its own terms. Profiles and filenames can contain identifying details; review the contents before public sharing. Your gallery or chosen backup service may separately synchronize videos.

The app includes Google Play services for watch communication. Android backup, Google Play delivery and device diagnostics are platform services governed by your Google/device settings. There is no EcuPulse crash-reporting SDK. Google Play may provide us with crash/ANR diagnostics and technical device information through Android vitals. We do not claim that all platform services are local or that they never process device information.

If you use REPORT A BUG, your email app opens a draft containing technical context such as phone model, Android/app version and ECU identity. Nothing is emailed automatically. If you send it, we receive your address, message and any attachments you choose. We use them to investigate and respond to your report, retaining them only as needed for support. Children, changes and contact

EcuPulse is a vehicle-diagnostics tool and is not directed at children. Changes to this policy will update its effective date and the public policy page. Questions: support@ecupulse.com.
